Working Bee - Sunday 26 July 2026

Come and join like-minded people who are passionate about caring for our own backyard as we wander through the bushland to remove invasive weeds.

Here is a Paterson's Curse rosette which we targeted during the last few working bees. Now is the time to remove them, before they advance further, flower and set seed!

No experience necessary - all welcome!

Working Bee - Monday 6 July 2026

Come and join us in the great outdoors for another satisfying working bee session!

Now is a great time to target weeds such as Mustard, Paterson's Curse and thistle rosettes, before they have a chance to flower and set seed.

Please dress appropriately for the bush terrain and colder weather including long pants, jacket, hat, sturdy boots, eye protection (glasses/safety glasses) and bring along a pair of gloves if you own a pair. Hand tools will be provided but you're welcome to bring your own small tools such as weeders and secateurs. 

Meet at Wickens Place Carpark in Fraser at 9 am.

For future working bees, mark your diaries for Sunday 26 July and Monday 3 August (usually 4^th Sunday and 1^st Monday of the month).

Woking Bee - Monday 1 June 2026

G’day fellow landcarers,
 
Next working bee will be on Monday 1st June at 9 am.
Meet at Wickens Place Carpark.

We will be continuing on the NW slopes focusing on mustard grass.
Ground is still nice and moist.

There may be a light shower so bring a brolley or raincoat just in case.

Meet at Wickens Place Carpark at 9am.
We’ll be working on Mustard grass in the open area on the NW slopes.
If we knock that over we’ll tackle the same weeds between the reservoirs.
The ground is damp so they should pull easily.

For those that are staying home over Easter and are available:

We’ll work from east to west along northern slopes of the summit then north along the east side of the main vehicle track.
Weather looks perfect and the soil may even still be softish (wishful thinking).

Working Bee this Monday 2 Feb at 8.30 am

Hi All,

Meet at Wickens Place Carpark, Fraser.

Weather looks mild (11-24) by comparison with now (Thursday, 29 January).

We will focus on taking out obvious woody weeds. Having said that only the very small one’s will pull easily due to hard ground and large one’s won’t be too receptive to cut and dab. Perhaps they’ll die from lack of moisture anyway.

CANCELLATION - Working Bee Tomorrow, 25 January 2026

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACT ESA) has declared a Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) for Sunday 25 January 2026.

As a consequence, Mount Rogers Landcare has decided to cancel the working bee scheduled tomorrow.

First working bee for 2026, Sunday 25 January

Hi All,

First session of the year……

It’s going to be rather warm on Sunday so we’ll start at 8.30 and probably call it quits after about an hour or so depending on how we feel.

The ground will be hard but I’ve still managed to pull most smaller woody weed seedlings of late.  Also the dabbing after cutting may not be as effective as we would like…. So be it. We can map/record anything substantial we choose to leave. Bagging may be valuable too.

from 8.30 (starting earlier now to avoid heat).

in the area around the power lines.

Landcare Sunday 23 November at 9 am

Hi All,

We are meeting this Sunday at Schey Place, Spence, at 9 am.

We shall be picking up where we left off last time, working along the east side of the hill towards Fraser.

Plenty of woody weeds are poking their heads up, not to mention the ivy, SJW, mustard and assorted others.

Hopefully there will be some rain between now and then, as the ground is quite hard at the moment.
